Paul Funnell has spent more than 20 years in construction, and the first 13 of them were on site.
He started as a scaffolder in 2002 and worked his way up to Scaffold Supervisor, running crews of more than 60 people. He then moved into safety as an OHS Advisor, responsible for over 100 employees and contractors. After moving to Australia in 2012, he ran scaffolding projects for builders across Sydney as a Leading Hand and then Project Supervisor.
In 2015 Paul moved into recruitment, first placing trades, operators and site teams across building and civil, then building embedded talent solutions for Tier 2 and 3 contractors. In 2022 he founded PBF Consulting to give growing builders, civil contractors and landscape businesses the kind of in-house recruitment partnership usually reserved for the big end of town.
That time on site shapes how he recruits. Paul knows what a good Site Manager looks like at a 6am pre-start, he reads a resume the way a Construction Manager would, and he gives clients and candidates an honest, no-BS view of the market.
